What We Do:
At Good for Men we want to start and lead the conversation around issues relating to 21st century masculinity, holistic health and conscious living.
We curate wisdom, habits, inspiration and practical solutions to help ease the strain and reverse the damage of modern life.
So much of the information that already exists on a lot of these topics tends to be either written primarily for a female audience first, or can seem a little ‘out there’ for the average man.
We don’t want men to miss these important messages, so we want to create a dialogue and connect with them in a way that cuts through and resonates.
What we’re looking for:

Our Content Categories:
Man: 21st Century Masculinity
The conversation around the ‘crisis of masculinity’ is loud right now. As a man, I recognise that many of the behaviours and norms that I, and many other ‘average men’ were brought up with are unhealthy, anti-social, outdated, obsolete.
Many of us are finding our way in a new world where it’s OK to be vulnerable, to discuss mental health issues, and admit that we don’t have all the answers. As such, we welcome personal or research-backed perspectives on how to navigate these changing norms and expectations.
Mind:
Articles relating to psychology, mindset, mindfulness, the power of thought and belief. As well as subtopics that can be affected by our beliefs and thoughts, such as relationships, self confidence, and personal growth for example.
Body:
A healthy, strong body underpins everything in life. Within this category we want to help our readers understand their bodies better in order to optimise their physical wellbeing: For example, topics relating to body movement, nutrition, rest and rejuvenation.
Note that we believe that balance is important for our bodies, so we’re not looking for the latest fad diets or extreme physical challenges that risk injury, or that prioritise vanity over health.
Spirit:
We interpret ‘Spirit’ as fulfilling our potential as humans. Human spirit. We welcome articles that demonstrate the importance and the how of unlocking our passions, creativity, purpose and making an impact in the World.
Note that this category therefore isn’t explicitly about religious spirituality. When it comes to matters of organised religion, we do welcome personal perspectives on relevant topics from those with faith, but we won’t publish anything that appears to overtly push the agenda of any particular organised religion, or passes judgment on non-believers.
Our Tone of Voice
A major problem with much of the information that exists in the media already about these topics is that it can feel quite female targeted. It doesn’t connect with the average man. It comes across as being either too soft and feminine, or a little too new age and ‘airy fairy’.
This is the primary reason for Good for Men existing – to cut through and connect with the average man in ways that grab their attention.
Therefore, the more we can bring male perspectives, talk in practical terms, back our writing up with hard facts, and speak about tangible benefits, the best chance we have.
The tone of our writing should be:
- Real
- Accessible
- Down to earth
- Not too Hipster, not too Hippy
- Conversational – after all , we are trying to start a conversation
- Not preachy or condescending. Avoid language that appears to point the finger (e.g. “You should listen more…”) focus more on providing personal perspectives (“I found that improving my attention when listening had a profound impact on the quality of my relationships”), and inclusive language (“As men, we might all benefit from listening a little more consciously.”)
- We believe that conscious living and decision making should be normal and commonplace – thus we talk about it in a normal everyday way – not like its a challenging goal to strive towards
- We avoid lazily using buzzwords as filler – e.g. “Sustainable” must always come with a clarifier. Sustainable in what way exactly?
Some Article Submission Specifics
- Word count between 1500 and 2000 words
- Provide supporting evidence for any claims you make in your article.
This can come in the form of lessons from self experimentation, or from research. - Provide striking visuals that will resonate with our target male audience. Try searching Unsplash, Pexels and Pixabay – and be sure to credit the source.
- Ensure good readability of your articles. Explain complex scientific terms in plan language. Keep paragraphs short, easy to skim. Break up big blocks of text with subtitles and pull quotes.
- Please don’t use this as a vehicle to overtly promote a product or service. It’s OK if you want to subtly mention your email list – but we won’t publish anything that is clearly just a sales pitch or brand awareness play.
- Edit your work diligently. Sloppy work will be rejected
